Rainy Day Hues

lemon treeWhat is the colour of a rainy day?    Well that depends on your outlook.  I remember when I lived in Coonabarabran and we hadn’t had any ‘real ‘ rain for months.  I was in town having a cuppa and it started in earnest. I dashed out onto the pavement clapping my hands with the delight of a two year old.   Tourists nearby stopped to watch me.  I had a wide smile and was so excited.  It was rain – real rain – rain that would soak the ground , give us grass for the cattle and water the flowers which didn’t qualify for any of the precious tank water.   Back then, rain meant a sleep-in – one can’t patrol the fences in the rain so we took advantage. The colour of rain was Green.

Then I moved to Sydney. I had been used to a one day a month rain of one inch as an average and there I was with what seemed like three months solid rain every day. It was so depressing.  I figured that people would wear bright colours in this environment but when I looked along the main street all the scurrying figures were  cloaked in black.  The colour of the rain was Black.

Other times the rain has been mixed with splashes of sunshine and in the transition we see a rainbow.  So what color is rain?   Pick a colour – find one that matches your mood – that can be the colour of the rain.  Today  I watch it drip off my lovely lemon tree making the leaves glisten and the lemons shine and I give thanks for that rain.  Today my rain  is yellow.  What colour is your rain?
